What Would You Like to See in This Sherman Oaks Storefront?

What would you like to see replace Aahs! in the neighborhood?

Back in February, the popular gift store Aahs! relocated from its spot on Ventura Boulevard in Sherman Oaks to a new location, also on the boulevard, in Encino.

What would you like to see replace Aahs! in Sherman Oaks? The store is currently vacant, and still sporting the familiar yellow and purple colors associated with Aahs!

The broker at RKF (the company listing the property) Robert Ury, said that “we are in negotations” with businesses interested in the location, but could not name them for confidentiality reasons. Check in with Patch as updates become available.

Perhaps you'd like to see another gift store, a restaurant, a cafe, or a bookstore? Or something else?

BOOKSTORE! Please! We need a bookstore.
Rachel H. September 28, 2012 at 02:25 PM
I would love a bookstore!!
Linda September 28, 2012 at 02:33 PM
Unfortunately, bookstores can't survive anymore with most people using Kindles and the like, and we don't need another business going out. I, too, love bookstores, but the reality is they're closing everywhere.

Bookstore with coffee & casual cafe, like Aroma on Tujunga in Studio City. Or nice moderately priced clotning store like those along Ventura in S.C.

Ulta cosmetics also a great idea.

A marijuana dispensary, of course. We don't have enough in the area.

Anything but another mattress store.

Something that doesn't exist up here. Anthropologie. Urth cafe. An awesome bread and dessert bakery like 85 degrees (look it up). Shinsengumi ramen. Lee's sandwiches. Also, Korean food is almost non-existent in the Valley. Or a mod asian cafe where you can hang out and drink your boba or eat your snowie.

It's not a massive space, so perhaps a bookstore could work there - if the Encino Barnes and Noble wasn't sustainable, this space might be just right to serve the neighborhood and begin to regentrify it - the area's looking a little rough around the edges these days. Oh, and PS - ANYTHING but a chain drugstore...
ForABetterSFV September 28, 2012 at 05:05 PM
Novel cafe (the one in downtown has a "take one leave one" shelf for exchanging books - how cute its that?). A "real" fresh pressed juice bar, like Sustain Juicery.

I think we need a Pet Smart -I have to drive to the West Valley or Burbank to find one! They have the best prices over PetCo & others.
Gillian September 28, 2012 at 05:41 PM
A dance or fitness studio or small theatre.
Sarah Ricard September 28, 2012 at 05:45 PM
Ditto to the Anthropologie! Would love a mod novelty and housewares store (on par with Fab.com) that has a READING ROOM with curated rad books for sale. Sorta like Urban Outfitters, but with no clothes and more home goods -- for grown-ups!

Nothing will make it...The parking situation is awful and the financial environment is worse. Investors....a word to the wise...save your $$.

Phyllis, there's always money to spend on shopping from SHOPPERS! Put something there and us shoppers find a way...I loved Aahhs and bought stuff there all the time -- that place did a good business!

An Indian casino.

One more for book store.

I live around the corner and I am so saddened by the state of the neighborhood. I go to Studio City to hang out, shop and eat. It has everything we don't. Please, please, not another chain store like T.J. Maxx. Yuck. Please let it be something that is not tacky.

KRISPY KREME DOUGHNUT SHOP WOULD BE AWESOME ......SMILE
Leslye Kasoff September 29, 2012 at 04:10 AM
Please no more big chain retail stores especially another CVs or Walgreens except maybe a bookstore and not another bar or hip hop place! Our Village is turning into a dorm but with no intellects!
encinogirlrocks September 29, 2012 at 06:03 AM
Benitos burritos there are none in the Valley I agree no chains. I'm sick of cvs popping up everywhere.
dee September 29, 2012 at 02:47 PM
What I need is a restaurant/gourmet take-out similar to Joan's on Third.Get a snack ,coffee or meal but also great food for entertaining or a good meal at home.Go see Joan's if you haven't already and you will see why our area really needs this. Now I have to go over the hill for this service. One cold only hope that Sherman Oaks starts to come back to it's previous glory. I agree with Susan. Why do we have to go to Studio city for the good stuff?
