Poll: And the Winner of the Best Pizza in Sherman Oaks is?

342 votes were cast in the poll which asked the question: Who makes the best Pizza in town? The answers and comments came in all week and now we have a winner.

The overwhelming favorite in our " Best Pizza Poll" is  it received 173 votes, which comes to 50% of the 342 votes cast in the pizza poll.

Mulberry Street came in second, after capturing 49 votes, or 14% of the votes cast. Barone's ,a long time favorite because of its deep dish pizza, came in a close third garnering 48 votes, or 14% of the total vote.

Coming in fourth was Santino's, which received 35 votes, followed by Greco's.

Of course, this is not a scientific poll, just a fun way for people to express their enthusiasm for one or several of the local pizza places.

We would encourage people to try all the places listed in our poll. Next week, we'll launch another poll to find another local favorite.

Mazzarinos-- large 16" two topping-- and cheese-- pizza for $10.88 out the door. Good quality ingredients.
Irene Gibson February 27, 2012 at 04:59 pm
Fab's used to be our favorite until its remodel job......got out of the habit during the process and switched to Mazzarino's and Maria's.....almost returned to Fab's yesterday for 'take out', while viewing Academy Awards at home, but they are closed between 3 and 5 pm on Sunday.
Momlee February 27, 2012 at 06:47 pm
Mazzarino's used to be the best until the closed for remodeling. When they finally opened they must have lost their mind. The prices tripled an everything tastes awful. Fabs again closed for one year and again their prices skyrocketed and their pizza is awful. I'm an old fashioned girl. I like the regular cheese pizza new york style and ocassionally will add a topping. Crusts should be somewhat thinner and crisp. The cheese should be hanging off. These businesses are cutting costs and ripping us off.

I think out of all of them Salvamini's pizza in Sherman Oaks is outstanding!

Maria's.

Have to agree with the Mazzarino's remodel, price, taste comment-- except for the "to-go" 16" pizza. I stay away from the Meat Lovers, mushroom-- to much water-- etc. pies. Just order a double pepperoni-cheese, and it is pretty good for $10 bucks. Lived in an Italian neighborhood for close to twenty years, and it seems about standard fare. Will concede, they don't always get the crust right, so I ask them to bake it another 5-10 minutes-- and that solves the problem.

Vitellos Express is the very best gourmet pizza! Joe Peep's can't hold a candle' Barone's no longer good, Vitellos has a flavorful crust and they don't skimp on the
toppings.Price is unbelieable for very large slices.

Leaning Tower is the best if you havent tried it do so they blow all of these places out of the water no joke!

Vitellos Express is soooo good. Not only do they make the best pizza in town but their entire menu is bomb diggity. I go there with friends and hangout on their comfortable, relaxed patio atmosphere. It's also nice to go there in evening with the outdoor fireplace, makes for a nice date. 2 thumbs up for Vitellos Express.

I'm a Mulberry's fan from way back and glad they have opened in Sherman Oaks. I truly think it's as close as you can get to the NY 'slice" I grew up on. Only limitation is they come one size (huge), and their pizza's average $20 bucks. I think that's a lot for a pizza. Don't overlook Oliva's on Van Nuys Blvd. either - their chicken sausage pizza is pretty awesome and not to be missed. At Oliva's you can go "out for dinner" and have pizza. Mulberry... not exactly a "dining" experience.. it's a "joint", but you can't beat it for takeout and delivery (which is free in Sherman Oaks).

Go to Vitellos and ask for the Robert Blake. It's to die for!
Pam Palmer Windette March 3, 2012 at 02:48 am
Barones isn't a deep dish pizza; it's a rectangular thin crust, and it ROCKS!

Where was this?
Paul June 17, 2013 at 04:05 pm
I was stopped coming out of the neighborhood by police. They said they were looking for a whiteRead More male, 5'10 with a tan shirt on who they were chasing in a car. He apparently dumped the car near Greenleaf and Davana Terrace and fled in the neighborhood. Not sure what he did or if they caught him.
Susan Pitts June 17, 2013 at 04:21 pm
I have photos of the 4 or 5 armed officers with their dog in tow in my backyard. For some reason IRead More couldn't upload the pix. The streets were blocked off by lapd cars south of Ventura, at Hazeltine and Stansbury avenue. They made us stay inside for At least two hours. We never heard if they caught the tan shirt man or not. We felt well protected however
