Sherman Oaks Business Leaders Promote Children’s Literacy

Sherman Oaks Chamber of Commerce holds a Book Drive to benefit local non-profit Child Care Resource Center!

Sherman Oaks, CA, September 1, 2013 – Over 850 books were collected in the month of June by the Sherman Oaks Chamber of Commerce (SOCC) in support of children’s literacy. The Book Drive will resume in September when school is back in session.

In a collective effort, business leaders donated prizes and raffle tickets were sold at the June Business Over Breakfast, Networking Lunch, and Evening Mixer with all profits donated to Child Care Resource Center’s campaign to increase children’s access to books.

For over 37 years Child Care Resource Center strives to help every child reach their full potential and has been assisting parents, child care providers, employers, and local communities in all matters related to child care since 1976. Their What A Difference A BOOK Makes™ campaign believes that every child deserves the chance to own a book. Startling research shows that while children in middle-income neighborhoods have an average of 13 books, only 1 book is available to every 300 children in low-income neighborhoods.

Every book collected in the San Fernando Valley, is given to a child in the San Fernando Valley.
