100 Homes Still Without Water Around Stone Canyon Avenue

More than 100 homes are still without water after a broken water main cause some flooding in the 4000 block of Stone Canyon Avenue in Sherman Oaks, according to the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power.

A reader, T. Postel, notified Patch that the road was buckled and the streets were closed.

The DWP said that crews are working to determine if a broken water main is the source of some flooding  which occurred at about 11:13 a.m.

According to Postel:

Early this morning a water main broke about at the corner of Stone Canyon and Sunny Oak, this is about 1/4 mile south of Valley Vista. There is a pothole about 8 - 10 feet across in the east side lane and some of the pavement has lifted on the west side. There doesn't look like much property damage, most of the water flowed down the street. Stone Canyon is closed to traffic at the break, and water has been shut off for the near-by houses.

According to the LADWP, "A water main break Wednesday caused major street damage along a San Fernando Valley street. Officials responded to a call about the 16-inch break at 8:25 a.m. in the 3900 block of Stone Canyon Ave.Stone Canyon was shut down at  Sunny Oak Road while crews worked on site. Officials say it has caused major street damage. No injuries or property damage were reported. Crews will work around the clock to restore water service to the remaining 100 customers. Street repairs pending.
