In the years to come archaeologists will build their reputations on explaining and analyzing a recent extinct species. History will show that species was called the American Middle Class.
A once powerful group that built a nation with their hard work, ethics and devotion to family and community. They were the "wealth-creators" whose sweat and toil made the so called job creators rich. In return they lived a stable, even pleasant life - a home, enough to eat, 2 weeks vacation, medical care was affordable and they expected that their children would do even better.
The rich lived like the rich and that was fine with the wealth creators. The middle class craved stability but the rich craved more. Great civilizations and species have simply disappeared, others have been destroyed by fire and ice. The American Middle Class was wiped out by a disease called greed.

The disease called greed is hard to define but like pornography you know it when you see it. Income for the rich soared, but remained stagnant for the AMC and the number of Americans defined as poor neared 50 million.
The middle class was shrinking but the political class looked the other way. The pizza guy who can't deliver (let's order Chinese), talked about electrocuting Mexicans, flipper the flopper said he stopped hiring illegals once he started running for president, and the guy from Texas (all hat and no cattle) bussed dishes for Donald Trump.

And the President? He ran around doing fund raisers and swapping bad jokes with Jay Leno. If the middle class get mentioned at all, it's a throw away line. Greed may be hard to define but the affects of greed are not.
