SHOOTING FROM THE LIP.....ON TV

Watching the news, cable or otherwise, is painful and seems to get more so by the moment.  Talk shows and talk radio are toxic or trivial but not fonts of information or enlightenment.                                                                                                                                                                                              Local news is a leader board.  Shootings vs. kidnappings vs. rapes vs. hit and runs vs. gangs vs. druggie celebs.  Tune in and see who's winning (shootings are always a good get).

And for leavening, there are liberal doses of fake controversy and fake outrage.  EXAMPLE:Watching Meet The Press this week, as the host tried to make the tragic shooting of 17 year old Trevor Martin, a racial incident on par with the lynching of Emmitt Tills back in the truly dark ages of civil rights.

Again and again David Gregory insisted that President Obama should label the shooting a racial incident and lead a conversation on race in America.  But the President has chosen his words carefully and well he should.

 First, we wait for the results of various investigations now underway.  The shooting could well have been based on racism or maybe the work of a wacko wannabe using the worst aspects of profiling.

At this point, we don't know.  Gregory, like Wolf Blitzer and so many others, seems intent on making "news" and not being honest to the story.  America is still evolving on race issues and not every incident is an outrage that can compare to a lynching.  Sometimes incidents are simply tragic.
