Local Guy Neil Patrick Harris Hosts Emmys—What Did You Think?

Neil Patrick Harris, who relocated a year ago to Sherman Oaks from Studio City, hosted another awards show.

Did you see the show on Sunday night? What did you think?

The "Modern Family" team (many who live in Studio City) became only the second comedy to win the prize for outstanding comedy series in its first four seasons on the air.

"Breaking Bad," which is in its sixth and final season on AMC, also won a supporting-actress Emmy for Anna Gunn, although lead actor Bryan Cranston and supporting-actor hopefuls Aaron Paul (who lives locally) and Jonathan Banks were passed over.

"Holy crap. I did not see this coming," series creator Vince Gilligan said as he accepted the drama series Emmy during the 65th annual Primetime Emmy Awards ceremony at the Nokia Theatre. "I thought this was going to be 'House of Cards,' or it could have been 'Homeland,' or it could have been 'Mad Men' or it could have been 'Game of Thrones' or 'Downton Abbey.' It could have been any of them, and even some others that were not nominated in this golden age of television that we feel so proud to be a part of."

"Modern Family" creator/producer Steven Levitan also paid tribute to the other nominees in the best-comedy category, but he also gave humorous thanks to others he believed to be responsible for the show's continued success.

"I cannot begin to express to you how surreal this ride has been, because none of us grew up feeling like winners," Levitan said. "So thank you to the bullies, to the popular kids, to the gym teachers who taunted us, who rejected us and who made fun of the way we ran. Without you we never would have gone into comedy."
