'Avengers' Continues Record-Breaking Run
The Avengers broke the $100 million for the second weekend in a row.
After a record-setting opening weekend, "The Avengers" had a sequel of sorts by earning another $103 million between Friday and Sunday to give it the best second weekend of release in movie history, according to final figures released today.
The mammoth sophomore-weekend haul for the superhero adventure bested even "Avatar," which earned a mere $75.6 million in its second weekend, according to Hollywood.com Box Office. "The Avengers" eclipsed the $300 million mark in a record-setting nine days, and has now earned $373.1 million.
Johnny Depp and director Tim Burton's latest collaboration, "Dark Shadows" debuted in a distant second place, earning $29.7 million between Friday and Sunday. The comedy "Think Like a Man" also continued to attract audiences, earning another $5.8 million.

The year's earlier blockbuster, "The Hunger Games," earned $4.5 million to bring its eight-week total to $387 million. The romance "The Lucky One" placed fifth over the weekend with $4.1 million.
Rounding out the top 10 films of the weekend were "The Five Year Engagement" ($3.3 million); "The Pirates! Band of Misfits" ($3.1 million); "The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel" ($2.7 million); "Chimpanzee" ($1.8 million); and "Safe" ($1.4 million).
