What a neighborhood! There's live music, excellent food and cutting-edge comedy this weekend in the Sherman Oaks area. Check it all out.

Friday:

Where/When: Valley Inn Restaurant, 4557 Sherman Oaks Ave., Sherman Oaks; all evening

Why Go:  After legging it around town shopping all day, have a nice relaxing dinner. Start with a salad or soup, any chicken entrée, and a refreshing sorbet for an amazingly reasonable price. Malls aren’t the only places offering great deals the day after Thanksgiving, so enjoy a great meal tonight.

Why Go: Known for the great ambiance and music, Vitello’s is featuring Billy Vera with Lon Price on the sax this evening.  Billy Vera is not just a singer, he is also a musician, songwriter, and producer amongst other talents.

Babylon Social Club

Why Go: Get your Friday night started right by listening to the Babylon Social Club perform various genres of music including R&B, Soul, and Rock.  Head on over to the popular Ventura Boulevard spot, grab a table, and enjoy your Friday evening.

Late Night All-Star Improv Show

Why Go: See some hilarious live improv after taking in a movie or dinner in the neighborhood.  If you’re not ready to go home yet, stay out and enjoy some late night laughs.

Small Business Saturday 2011

Where/When: Small businesses everywhere; all day

Why Go: Conceived of by American Express, Small Business Saturday is designed to help out the smaller businesses in your neighborhood (as opposed to the enormous malls). There are some wonderful small businesses all around our Sherman Oaks neighborhood, so if you want to avoid the crazy crush on Black Friday, wait until today to purchase items and go support the smaller shops.

Sherman Oaks Community Farmers Market

Where/When: Sepulveda Boulevard and Camarillo Street; 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Why Go: You get to choose from local produce, support local farmers, and there are some fun activities for your kids while you pick up the necessary groceries. Also today there will be an e-waste collection, meaning that you can drop off any electronics you no longer use including computer monitors, PCs, printers, and scanners just to name a few items.

Easy Does It

Why Go: Perhaps you just want to try out yoga and see if it’s for you, or maybe you just want a nice, calm session where you learn some new movements. Either way, this class is designed with long warm ups on the floor, a mixture of standing postures, and then a nice long cool down and stretch.

Why Go: If everyone’s going to be at your house watching football, they’re going to get hungry, so run out and pick up some prepackaged pizzas. Easy to make, delicious, and even the pickiest of eaters will be happy.  Buy one prepackaged pizza, get a second one for free (of equal or lesser value).

Sunday Football Fun

Spellbinding Sundays

Why Go: Families can encounter magicians throughout the grounds, which is fun  the whole family can enjoy. The live performances run until January 8, 2012.

Comedy Improv for KIDS by KIDS!

Why Go: See local kids perform live – it could give your kids the inspiration they need to get up and try something new that they’re interested in.
