Thursday:

Kids Yoga

Why Go: Specifically designed for kids age 3-6, this class improves flexibility and helps children develop breathing patterns while relaxing. Not only does the class introduce children to yoga and the corresponding poses, but it also teaches them how to focus.

CityWalk DJ Dance Party Featuring DJ CAM

Where/When: Universal CityWalk, 100 Universal City Plaza, Universal City; 7-10 p.m.

Why Go: Universal has lots of fun and festive activities this holiday season, and tonight you can listen to some great music from DJ CAM and then see a movie, grab a bite to eat, or see some great live comedy at the Jon Lovitz Comedy Club.

Beyond Stand-Up

Where/When:  , 13442 Ventura Blvd., Sherman Oaks; 8:30 p.m.

Why Go: Talented local comedians perform every Thursday, and it’s on Ventura if you want to attend a fun event but don’t want to go very far.

4 Peas in a Pod(Cast)

Where/When: Jon Lovitz Comedy Club, 1000 Universal Studios Blvd., No. 222, Universal City; 9 p.m.

Why Go: Four struggling actors discuss stories, share jokes and anecdotes, and participate in improv games every week in their live show. Wayne Frazier, Brandon West, Natalie Lipka and Dianna Dimino share the stage, laughing their way through each differently themed episode.

Salsa with Joaquin

Where/When: , 14252 Ventura Blvd., Sherman Oaks; 8-9 p.m.

Why Go: Learn an exotic dance, meet new people and celebrate the new year by trying something different.

Masta & The Edge of Soul

Where/When: , 14015 Ventura Blvd., Sherman Oaks; 10 p.m.

Why Go: This R&B band always draws a crowd. If you’re not going to celebrate New Year’s Eve in a big way, you can always start your holiday weekend with some great music at a local hangout. Café Cordiale offers a variety of live entertainment on the weekends.    

Pricing: No entrance fee. 

 

Jon Lovitz Live!

Where/When: Jon Lovitz Comedy Club, 1000 Universal Studios Blvd., No. 222, Universal City; 8 p.m.

Why Go: Jon Lovitz makes everyone laugh. He’s appeared on famous hit television shows such as Friends and Seinfeld, and he is one of the few performers that can say he started as an actor and then became a stand-up comedian. 

Pricing: $20. Ages 18 and older only.

 

Saturday:

Jay & Silent Bob’s New Year’s Eve Poker Classic

Where/When: Jon Lovitz Comedy Club, 1000 Universal Studios Blvd., No. 222, Universal City; 6–9 p.m.

Why Go: Poker is always an intriguing game, especially when you can go runner-runner with Jay & Silent Bob! Participate in this New Year’s Eve elimination tournament; the top 10 players will win prize packages, including items such as an LG 50-inch 3D plasma HDTV, an LG 42-inch 3D HDTV, an Xbox 360 Limited Edition Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 bundle, an iPod Touch and a Polaroid instant digital camera. New Year’s Eve Gala

New Year’s Eve Party Dinner Show

Where/When: Vitello’s, 4349 Tujunga Ave., Studio City; 10 p.m. to 1 a.m.

Why Go: The ‘Young Lions features James Tormé and Danny Janklow, two of the hottest young jazz performers around today, and they’re kicking off their musical tour at Vitello’s tonight! Ring in the New Year with live entertainment, great food, and your family and friends.

New Year’s Eve at Vibrato with Sherry Williams

Where/When: Vibrato, 2930 Beverly Glen Circle, Bel Air; 8:30 p.m.

Why Go: Celebrate New Year’s Eve by listening to Sherry Williams, one of today's leading female jazz vocalists. She can paint a story with her words,  lending a unique sound to any timeworn song.  As well as offering great music this evening, Vibrato is creating a gourmet four-course meal and a traditional champagne toast at midnight.

New Year’s Eve at Pineapple Hill

Where/When: , 4454 Van Nuys Blvd., Sherman Oaks; 9 p.m. to 12:30 a.m.

Why Go: There are a lot of great places to eat dinner locally this evening, so why not go out for a few drinks with friends afterward to celebrate the holiday. If you plan on hitting a few spots on Ventura Boulevard, Pineapple Hill is another place to definitely stop this evening, as they’re offering an open bar special from 9 p.m. to 12:30 p.m. for only $50. At midnight there will be a champagne toast, and you can play DJ by choosing songs you and your friends want to listen to on the jukebox!

Sunday:

New Year’s Day at Blue Dog
