There's a lot going on this weekend, including a walk/run event, the Valley Film Festival, and live music at the usual Sherman Oaks hot spots. 

Saturday:

Sherman Oaks Community Farmers Market

Why Go: You get to choose from local produce and support local farmers. Fun activities keep the kids busy while you shop.

Friends of the Library Book Sale

Where/When: , 14245 Moorpark St.; 10 a.m.

Why Go: A great place to find "like new" items on sale for low prices, including media items (CDs, DVDs, etc.).

The Valley Film Festival 2011

Where/When: , 13500 Ventura Blvd., Sherman Oaks; 1 p.m., 3:30 p.m., 7 p.m., 10:30 p.m.

Why Go: Support the 818 area today by seeing various blocks of short and feature films, starting early this afternoon. The festival offers up a variety of subjects and the films explore a plethora of themes and human emotions. If you are a film aficionado this is the place to be over the weekend.

CityWalk DJ Night

Where/When: Universal CityWalk, 100 Universal City Plaza, Universal City, 91608; 7-9 p.m.

Why Go: Every weekend Universal CityWalk offers free live music, and this evening there will be a multitude of DJs showcasing their talents and pumping out some great beats to start the weekend off. 

Pricing: Free.

 

True School All Stars

Where/When: , 14015 Ventura Blvd., Sherman Oaks; 10 p.m.

Why Go: Enjoy some R&B Funk music at a favorite local restaurant that offers a variety of live music all weekend long. 

Pricing: No entrance fee.

 

Late Night with Bob Sheppard Group

Where/When: Vitello’s Italian Restaurant, 4349 Tujunga Ave., Studio City; 10 p.m.

Why Go: A multi-woodwind specialist, Bob Sheppard will be performing this evening. Bob Sheppard lets the diverse array of instruments he plays do the speaking for him. His array of saxophones, flutes and clarinets are impressive and he has toured with Steely Dan and Boz Scaggs. Continue your weekend by relaxing and listen to the realms of jazz and pop music at this popular late night hangout. 

Pricing: $5. 

 

 

Sunday:

WeSPARK’s 3rd Anuual 10K Run & 5K Run/Walk

Where/When: Universal Studios Backlot, 100 Universal City Dr., Universal City.

Why Go: weSPARK is a cancer support center dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for cancer patients, their families and friends. Not only will you support a fantastic cause when you take part in the run/walk, but you will also have the opportunity to run past some of your favorite movie sets. There will be food trucks and fun runs for kids 12 and under.  

Pricing: $30-35 for the 5K/10K (No minimum age), Kids - $10-20, Kids 5 and Under Fun Run is free. Parking will be free at the Curious George Parking Lot. For more information, visit wespark.org or call 818-906-3022. 

 

Sunday Football Fun

Where/When: The Oaks Tavern, 13625 Moorpark St., Sherman Oaks; 9:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Why Go: Bars always have great specials for Sunday football and today at The Oaks Tavern you can enjoy the games, free waffles from 10-11 a.m., free chili dogs at noon, and then after the games have ended you can celebrate or commiserate by singing your favorite songs for karaoke.

The Valley Film Festival 2011

Why Go: The festival offers up a variety of subjects and the films explore a plethora of themes and human emotions, so if you are a film aficionado this is the place to be over the weekend. By attending, you’re supporting your local filmmakers.

Anna Mjoll

Where/When: Vibrato, 2930 Beverly Glen Circle, Bel Air; 6:30-8:30 p.m.

Why Go: The talk around town is that Mjoll is the new female Michael Buble. She has performed previously with Julio Iglesias, Christopher Guest and Michael MacDonald.
