What's Happening This Weekend in Sherman Oaks Area

There's a lot to offer your holiday guests when they visit.

With Thanksgiving often come out-of-town relatives, so if you're entertaining family members for an extended period, you'll want to get out of the house and do something fun. As usual, Sherman Oaks has a lot going on this weekend.

ArcLight Presents The Hammer and Q&A with Filmmakers

Why Go: This movie's plot revolves around the life of Matt Hamill, the first deaf wrestler to win a National Collegiate Wrestling Championship. If you want to have a low-key evening, grab some friends and head to the Galleria. Have a bite to eat, look at the various shops and then watch this touching film. Afterward, you can even speak to the filmmakers and ask questions, if you like.

David Garfield

Why Go: Jazz fusion is incredibly popular right now and tonight you can experience this live and energetic music by heading over to this local hot spot, which always offers fun entertainment.

White Lighter

Why Go: Philadelphia natives John Basenfelder, Steve Basenfelder and Joe Liptock are the power trio that make up this local band, and their music draws from various influences, including blues, R&B, pop, and early rock 'n' roll.

Danny Janklow and Friends Late Night Hang

Where/When: Vitello’s Italian Restaurant, 4349 Tujunga Ave., Studio City; 10 p.m.

Why Go: The weekend is finally approaching, and now you can relax at Vitello’s downstairs lounge, where Danny Janklow will serenade you on the sax.

Why Go: Stay on Ventura Boulevard all evening by seeing a hilarious live improv show after dinner or even a movie.

Saturday:

Sherman Oaks Community Farmers Market

Where/When: Sepulveda Boulevard and Camarillo Street; 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Why Go: You get to choose from local produce, support local farmers, and there are some fun activities for children while you pick up the necessary groceries.

Sandra Jones Campbell: Standing Room Only

Where/When: Left Coast Galleries, 11734 Ventura Blvd., Studio City; 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Why Go: If you prefer your Saturdays to be quiet, viewing some art would be a relaxing way to spend your afternoon. Sandra Jones Campbell regards her work as composites of social sightings, portraying evocative associations; her respect for 1930s German Expressionists comes through on her canvases. The exhibit closes Sunday.

Hamilton Academy of Music Fundraiser

Where/When: Vitello’s Italian Restaurant, 4349 Tujunga Ave., Studio City; 1-3 p.m.

Why Go: Support a local music program and its talented students by listening to great bands perform in their Fall Jazz Concert this afternoon upstairs at Vitello’s. It’s a worthy cause, and you’ll get an afternoon of wonderful food and music too.

Comedy Improv for KIDS by TEENS!

Why Go: If your child is interested in the world of comedy, try taking him or her to see local teenagers perform live—it might inspire them to do the same.

Listening to the Babylon Social Club perform various genres of music including R&B, soul and rock might be just what you need this evening.
