PHOTOS: Huge Turnout for Conor Lynch 5K Run/Walk

A large crowd of runners, walkers and spectators shows up Sunday for this inaugural event aimed at promoting safety for all those who share the roads.

More than 1,500 participants and 500 spectators got up early on Sunday morning for a 5K Run/Walk in honor of Conor Lynch at Van Nuys Sherman Oaks Park.

"Everything went off without a hitch; it succeeded beyond belief," said organizer Jeri Dye Lynch, who dedicated the event to her 16-year-old son, Conor, who lost his life when he was hit by a car on Woodman Avenue near Notre Dame High School a year ago.

Conor was a cross-country runner. Sunday's 5K was a fundraiser to benefit new and existing programs that promote the safety of pedestrians, runners, cyclists and young drivers through the Conor Lynch Foundation. Many local people, businesses and entities helped sponsor the event.

"There were so many people, that it took me 24 minutes to finish," said Dominique Zoida, advertising manager for Patch. "What a great crowd.''

Many of the participants were Conor's friends and fellow students from Notre Dame, although there were people of all ages, including a mother who ran with her baby in a pram.
