What's Happening This Weekend in Sherman Oaks Area

Summer may be ending soon, but great events continue every weekend here in Sherman Oaks.

 

Saturday:

Sherman Oaks Community Farmers Market

Where/When: Sepulveda Boulevard and Camarillo Street; 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Why Go: There’s always a great selection of produce, and kids can enjoy face painting and a fun slide while you get some groceries from local vendors.

Kids Club: Jeff the Great

Where/When: Sherman Oaks Galleria, 15301-15303 Ventura Blvd.; 11-11:30 a.m.

Why Go: Enjoy magic tricks and great juggling feats performed by Jeff the Great, and watch as he wows parents and children alike. 

Pricing: Free.

 

Dig It!

Where/When: Skirball Cultural Center, 2701 N. Sepulveda Blvd., Los Angeles; 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Why Go: Here's a different way to spend time with the kids: digging for ancient treasures. Activities include sorting through hidden artifacts, weighing and examining the findings and sculpting your very own artifact that can be taken home. 

Price: Included with museum admission; no reservations required. 

 

Friends of the Library Book Sale

Where/When: Sherman Oaks Public Library, 14245 Moorpark St.; 10 a.m.

Why Go: You might spot a gem or two amid the mass of books, DVDs, CDs, and even those rare and quaint forms of home entertainment, video tapes.

Pricing: Free.

 

Jon Lovitz Live

Where/When: Jon Lovitz Comedy Club, 1000 Universal Studios Blvd., No. 222, Universal City; 8 p.m.

Why Go: A former cast member of Saturday Night Live, comedian Jon Lovitz always makes everyone laugh until they can’t breathe. What better way to spend an evening than by enjoying some belly laughs and time out with friends. 

Pricing: $20. Ages 18 and older only.

 

Mystique, Featuring Chauncey Hines (R&B Jazz)

Where/When: Café Cordiale, 14015 Ventura Blvd., Sherman Oaks; 10 p.m.

Why Go: Café Cordiale is always a happening place—it’s convenient, close, and has great live music on the weekends.  

Pricing: No entrance fee.

Dig It!

Ride 2 Recovery BBQ

Where/When: 13553 Reedley St., Van Nuys; 1-3 p.m.

Why Go: Enjoy a simple meal and help out injured veterans. The American Legion Auxiliary Post 817 is hosting a BBQ and raffle to raise funds for Ride 2 Recovery, and for $2.50 a plate, you can choose from a burger, a hot dog, or piece of chicken with chips and potato salad included. Ride 2 Recovery raises money to support Spinning Recovery Labs and outdoor cycling programs at Military and VA locations around the United States to help injured veterans.

Pricing: $2.50 per plate. Full bar available for additional cost. 

 

Street Beat

Where/When: Skirball Cultural Center, 2701 N. Sepulveda Blvd., Los Angeles; noon and 2 p.m.

Why Go: Getting the family out of the house and listening to live music can be a great weekend activity. This STOMP-like urban percussion group takes ordinary items and turns them into rhythmic instruments to create joyous music.

E-Waste Recycling

Where/When: Westfield Fashion Square, 14006 Riverside Dr., Sherman Oaks (go to outside lot near Woodman Avenue); 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Why Go: It's a good excuse to clean out that garage (gasp) and gather up any electronics and appliances you don't or can't use anymore.

Angela Carole Brown

Where/When: Vibrato, 2930 Beverly Glen Circle, Bel Air; 6:30-10:30 p.m.

Why Go: You can relax and unwind at Vibrato while listening to vocalist Angela Carole Brown perform, starting at 6:30 p.m. Brown has been on the L.A. music scene for two decades and has recorded with Josh Groban and other artists.
