Gas Prices Break $4 a Gallon in Sherman Oaks

Middle East unrest to push prices even higher in the coming months.

Gas prices tripped the $4 mark this week in Sherman Oaks and look likely to keep rising. Unrest in the Middle East, most specifically the OPEC nation of Libya, pushed oil prices Tuesday to more than $93 a barrel, the largest gain in over 2 1/2 years.

“It stinks,” says Mark Stein, a local commuter. “I'm sick of it.”

Once again, the 76 station at 4822 Van Nuys Blvd. saw the sharpest increase in price. While regular gasoline remained at $3.89 a gallon, the price for Plus climbed to $4.09 a gallon. Premium was listed at $4.19 a gallon.

“The worst is yet to come,” said Carmen Flores, another driver who had heard oil futures were up, soon to reflect a hike at the pump.
