Nearly 80 percent of the nail salons in California are owned and operated by Vietnamese immigrants, most of them never had any experience in the salon business before coming to America. It all started with a handful of Vietnamese "Boat People."
Some of the Vietnamese immigrants who opened the first nail salons in California are still in business. In some cases, the salons are being operated by children of the founders of the first salons.
