Chabad House Halted by Court Decision

Plans to build a 12,000-square-foot synagogue in a Sherman Oaks neighborhood hit a snag Tuesday, as the project's permit was overruled by the courts.

Plans to build a 12,000-square-foot Chabad House in a Sherman Oaks residential neighborhood were halted on Tuesday, as the City Council's Planning and Land Use Management Committee was made aware that the courts have overruled the city's permits for the synagogue project.

The courts sided with residents that argued the project, which would be built at 13079 Chandler Boulevard by Chabad North Hollywood, was too large.

The matter will now go to City Council for full consideration, but no hearing date has been set.
